My View Of A Good Book

A lot of different styles of books can be considered good. Many of which are of literary merit. However it is not the same; a novel can be recognized as a book of literary merit however will not be considered good for me or a lot of other people. What I considered a good book is vastly different then everyone else.
I personally like to move from reality when I read a book. I love to visit the mystical world of Mordor, the Capital, or the planet Hoth. Fiction has always appealed to me. Ever since I was a kid I always love pretending I was an elvish soldier or a dragon slayer. I would spend my days out in the woods building castles out of sticks or carving a bow out of a fallen branch. I blame that mainly to the fact that my parents never let me have video games. Out in the woods nations would rise and fall; I would die and be reborn as a dwarf or a wizard. Because of my rich childhood those fantasies still capture my attention and draw me in to their twisting plot, or the characters acts of valor or death. The training of dragons and the magnificent battles they partake in. Each story brought new adventure, taking me to places my body could not go. Fantasy books are the books I considered to be good because those are the novels that captivate my attention.
Non-Fiction, even today, does not appeal to me. I do not like feeling the pressure of reality. When I read, I read to escape the world I’m in. It is like a breath of fresh air. Non-Fiction brings back all the pressures of life back to me, it even creates new ones. Non-Fiction can also be depressing; it describes the struggle and even death of people that once walked the world I am currently walking. This strikes me as extremely sad and is not something I would do for fun. I don’t even like watching non-fiction television. Non-Fiction does not and never has fallen under the category of a good book; for me at least.
Everyone’s view of literature varies and so does their preference in types of books. Many find a type of novel that they enjoy reading and stick to it to find the most enjoyment out of their novel. For me the types of novels I find the most interesting fall mainly under the category of non-fiction and more specifically fantasy. I like to be able to escape all the worldly pressures and travel far away, to Narnia for example. This is why I have never truly liked fictional novels. They bring too much of my everyday life into it and bring emotions I would rather not experience when I am reading.
